JD's Watersports in Costa Rica

If you are arriving on a Cruise Ship into Puerto Puntarenas or Caldera, we can arrange a variety of 1-day tours (shore excursions) for you. Our tours are much more intimate and less expensive than the tours offered by the Cruise Lines. Options include:

Jungle River Cruise
Guided Hike in Carara Biological Reserve
Canopy Tour
Rainforest Aerial Tram
La Paz Waterfall Gardens
Golf at Los Sueños

The Original Canopy Tour: The original Canopy Tour involves a short hike in the rainforest, traversing through the treetops on zip lines and rappelling. This tour takes place one hour drive from the port in Mahogany Park. This is an exhilarating adventure for everyone. You do not have to be in great physical condition, and no prior experience is needed.

Jungle River Cruise: The Tarcoles River on the central Pacific Coast is full of Crocodiles, Scarlet Macaws, over 120 species of birds, and hundreds of tropical plant species. The cruise also features botanic gardens and scarlet macaw viewing in the afternoon. Many consider this tour to be the highlight of their vacation.

Rainforest Hiking: Costa Rica is home to several different types of rainforest-all of which you can hike through. Cloud Forests, Tropical Rainforests, Transitional Zone Forests, and Dry Tropical Forests are all found in Costa Rica. Most hikes are not strenuous; but use a guide, because they know what to look for!

Golfing: Several fantastic golf courses are available in Costa Rica. Most are on the Pacific Coast, others are in the wonderful climate of the central Valley. These are Championship courses designed by Ted Robinson, Robert Trent Jones, Jr., Mike Young and others. Great golf has arrived in Costa Rica!

Surfing: Costa Rica is a surfer's paradise. The North, Central and South Pacific all offer fantastic surfing. Jaco Beach on the Central Pacific and Tamarindo on the North Pacific are perfect hangouts for surfers, because the waves rule the day, and the bars/discos rule the night! Surfing is truly World-class in Costa Rica.

Horseback Riding: Riding is available in most areas of Costa Rica. Vista Del Valle Plantation Inn near San Jose has intimate bungalows with guided trail rides. Rancho San Miguel offers a spectacular Andalusian show in the evenings near San Jose. Jaco Equestrian Center has rentals on the Central Pacific Coast or you can take a horseback ride to La Fortuna Waterfall in the Arenal Region.

Snorkeling: is available on the North, Central and South Pacific Coasts. Not all beaches on the Pacific Coast are recommended for swimming and snorkeling. Playa Blanca at Hotel Punta Leona offers the best snorkeling on the central Pacific. Playa Conchal on the North Pacific has some good snorkeling. Caño Island on the South Pacific has better snorkeling, but the currents can be difficult.

Aerial Tram: The aerial tram features a cascading 40-foot waterfall, giant rainforest trees and panoramic views of the ocean. The tram seats 8 passengers with a naturalist guide. The gondola tour is set within a 210-acre private transitional zone rainforest reserve. The tour also includes a 45 minute nature walk.

Cruises to Tortuga Island: Ride a lovely catamaran yacht to Tortuga Island, which is famous for its beautiful beach. Play in the surf or sun on the beach. This is a very scenic, relaxing full day on the ocean and beach.

Sea Kayaking: Paddle along the coastline to a white sand beach where you can enjoy sand, swimming, snorkeling and refreshments.
